Frog Bikes, a manufacturing company based in Pontypool and established in 2016, were a client of NuStaff for many years. NuStaff supplied the company with large volumes of temporary flexible workers during for nearly a decade, with many placements going from temporary to permanent contracts.
In February 2026, Frog Bikes filed notice of intention to appoint administrators, pointing to rising costs, weaker consumer demand, and Brexit-related trade friction. Unable to find a buyer for the business, the company's entire workforce of more than 100 people across manufacturing, warehousing, and administrative roles suddenly faced redundancy.
The closure could have been detrimental for the Torfaen labour market and economy, placing both livelihoods and valuable local skills at risk. Many individuals were unsure of their next steps, but NuStaff stepped in and responded immediately.
Drawing on our longstanding relationships with businesses across the region, we were able to provide a level of support that went far beyond traditional recruitment activity. Our team engaged with the workforce and provided on site guidance from the outset, helping employees understand their options, offering reassurance, and beginning the process of matching people to suitable opportunities straight away.
Thanks to our deep connections with local manufacturing and warehousing employers, we were able to identify alternative roles within days. Many individuals moved directly into new positions with no loss of earnings, ensuring continuity, stability and confidence at a time of significant change. For those whose roles didn’t align with immediate vacancies, we offered tailored outplacement support which included CV guidance and interview preparation to career advice and introductions to trusted training providers. Where appropriate, we helped 11% of individuals access REACT funding, enabling them to retrain or upskill without financial barriers.
While most employees transitioned into similar roles, some chose to explore new career paths. NuStaff supported these decisions with personalised advice and ongoing check ins, ensuring every person had a clear and achievable route forward. 62% of staff received careers advice, and 61% had support with CV writing. Our involvement didn’t end once placements were made; we continued to offer long term support to help individuals settle into their new roles and feel confident about their future.
The outcomes were significant. 84% of the Frog Bikes workforce secured new employment locally, with 36% gaining employment with NuStaff’s other clients. Not only did this protect household incomes, but it also helped to retain essential skills within the Torfaen area. Local employers benefited from an influx of experienced, reliable workers at a time when they needed it, and the wider community avoided the economic impact typically associated with large scale redundancies.
Key outcomes:
- 62% received careers advice
- 61% support with CVs
- 8% staff CVs sent to other employers
- 44% interviewed with other employers
- 36% Employed with other NuStaff clients
