What is a Certified B Corporation?
Certified B Corporations are businesses that meet exceptionally high standards of verified social and environmental performance, transparency and accountability.
The certification is awarded by the non-profit organisation B Lab following a rigorous assessment process that evaluates how a company performs across multiple areas of its operations. Unlike many certifications that focus on a single aspect of business, B Corp certification examines the organisation as a whole, measuring the impact it has on all of its stakeholders.
To become certified, businesses must demonstrate that they meet demanding standards across five key areas:
- Governance
- Workers
- Community
- Environment
- Customers
The assessment process examines everything from leadership and ethics to employee wellbeing, diversity and inclusion, environmental responsibility, community engagement, customer impact and long-term sustainability. Companies must provide evidence to support their performance and commit to continuous improvement.
Certification is not awarded permanently. Every Certified B Corporation must undergo reassessment every three years, ensuring that high standards are maintained and that businesses continue to evolve and improve.
